Drum roll….after many long months of planning, prayer, and patience, the letters have been sent to the Stake Presidents announcing the First Presidency’s approval for funding Gathering Places.
Getting to this point has been a very long and rewarding journey. Many consecrated servants have worked tirelessly as they considered the needs of the AWA YSA and their future. The Area Presidency, the YSA senior missionaries, the YSA couples throughout the area, and especially all the young single adults in Western Africa are so grateful to Heavenly Father that their efforts are coming to fruition. The leaders have definitely caught the vision and are ready to go forward with implementation.
“Gathering Places Hold the key to the future of the church. We are told we need to turn our keys. If we do, we are going to bless members now and generations to come. The YSA come, they lead. They hold the leadership roles. It is really happening.” President Allotey Kasoa Stake
“Gathering Places solve all kinds of problems for leaders…YSA come and meet people of like minds. They get enthused and come together and socialize.” President Abu of Tema Stak
The approved funding will provide internet in stake and district centers, enhanced refreshments budget, some transportation assistance, computers, skills equipment (sewing machines, ovens, etc.) and the associated materials (fabric, thread, foodstuffs, etc.)
Now the process of implementation will begin, which will require more planning, prayer, patience, and time.
This proposal has been the focus of our 21 months in Africa. Countless hours of planning, pilots, and powerpoints that were presented to the SLC brethren culminated on February 10 with this approval. What an adventure it has been. As an American it is hard to believe that internet either isn’t, or is so limited, in the church buildings here that clerks need to use their own data to transmit funds each Sunday. Think of all the ways you use your phone every time you walk into a chapel. We believe that internet along with the other funded items will bring YSA into the buildings where they will sit next to a picture of the Savior and feel the blessings of the gospel in their lives. Prayers of thanks to our Heavenly Father.
