Winneba Stake had their Gathering Place launch today. Winneba is located along the coastline 35 miles east of Accra, about a two-hour drive. The launch was to begin at 10 am, so we left our apartment at 7 am to give us time to get lost and provide some wiggle time for traffic. The roads were fairly clear, with no out of control delays so we arrived about 20 minutes early. There were a few people at the lovely little chapel, but considering a launch was scheduled the numbers were few according to American standards. But, to African standards, things were exactly consistent with just about every place we go—it started an hour late.
The YSA Gathering Place couple who was called to work with/manage/monitor the weekly activities, minister to the YSAs, etc were married last December. I wonder about the depth of leadership in this stake. This young couple are the YSA Leaders, Pathway missionaries, he is on the high council, she is a Relief Society teacher, he goes to school, they both have jobs, plus they are expecting their first baby this fall.
The entertainment was a cultural dance group from their stake. So great! The lead drummer was a lady with two young men as supports. It is always fun to watch these dances. I’m so glad that the Africans are keeping their traditions alive by teaching the next generation the tribal customs.

After the launch we drove through the little town to see the ocean. I wonder if there is a way tokeep the beaches clean and free of plastic bottles and washed-up trash. Miles and miles beach with debris everywhere. Every time I see the filth I think of the campaign when I was in
