A Real Queen

Her name is Kwansimah. She is the female YSA representative in the Kumasi Dichesmo Stake. She was born as royalty in her tribe. Her mother and grandmother both held the honored position of Queen Mother. She had been groomed to become the next Queen Mother but chose the gospel of Jesus Christ instead.

Her traditional culture believes in idol worship. These idols can be any object chosen by the elders; a river, a pot, literally anything. The tribal royalty has the right to marry you to any of these objects or to any man they choose. Once that marriage occurs, no other man can come to you or he can be killed. She wants to marry a man of her choice and have children. She understands she is a daughter of her Heavenly Father.

Kwansimah has chosen to leave her cultural roots and be a Christian, to be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. But, when she hears the beat of the drums the early teachings come back to her and make her feel the power of the idols. She doesn’t like those feelings and works to stay away from such temptations. She loves to dance, but does so only “small small” so she can maintain her positive mindset and not return to the dark feelings of her early childhood.
