Ouidah, Benin: Market
Friday Morning, December 23
We spent two nights at a lovely oceanside resort, Casa del Papa. It was the perfect place to relax and take in the beauty of Benin. One of the sisters, LeAnne Case, was a water aerobics instructor. She was kind enough to treat us to workouts in the stunning swimming pool. Sunrise walks on the beach, great food, fascinating culture. Overall, we enjoyed ourselves immensely. Amazing!
Markets are the social and shopping center of all things that are important to the Ouidah village people. Clay pots, plates, and bowls are hand manufactured and used by almost everyone, including restaurants in the broader region. Children are always present. It is a way they learn their mother’s trade. School doesn’t seem to be a priority for market children.
