Bernice's Story

Everyone loves Bernice, and many of us wear clothing and carry bags that she has sewn at her shop, “Bags by Bernice.” Her story is heartwarming and inspirational.

Over twenty years ago, during a challenging time in her marriage, her husband gave her permission to attend any church she wanted and before long she became a member of the true church. The main reason that prompted Bernice to be baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints: “was the love, the love I received from the Relief Society sisters. I got much love that I needed at that time.”

Having partaken of the fruit, she desired to share and gave her husband a copy of the Book of Mormon, but he set it aside until one morning she begged him to follow her to church. He was so impressed by what he witnessed there that as soon as he got home he sat at the dining table and began to read.

Similar to when Parley P. Pratt first read it, he set aside the food that Bernice put in front of him and continued to read. He turned the final page 5 days later. Within two weeks he had absorbed all the missionary lessons and was ready to enter the waters of baptism.

Unto All the World - Bernice's Story.

“In the miracle, the spiritual miracle, of joining the church - this is a new life. I’m so impressed how readily the African people understand that. Africa is one of those special places where you get to see the glory of the Lord, the wonder, the miracle of the restoration just, quite literally, unfold before your eyes.”
